It’s Time to Start Running Again

I’ve noticed something recently. I’m getting sick more and more often. Since September, I’ve been sick with the flu or had sinus infections no less than four times. It’s something that’s new to me. I’m not used to being down and out this many times. I could handle it maybe if the sickness was just a day or two but it takes up far more time. Each bout lasts approximately a week.

It’s had me thinking what am I doing differently than in the past? I’m still eating well and taking my vitamins daily. There are two things that are significantly different – a lack of exercise and daily health shakes.

Since completing a marathon my physical activity has dramatically declined. Preparing for and running a marathon took everything I had out of me. I figured I’d take some well-deserved time off and get back to running after a few months. That never happened. It has almost been a year and a half since the marathon. Since I wasn’t running anymore, I figured there wasn’t much need for a health shakes. I assumed I was getting enough healthy nutrients through what I was eating. Evidently that’s not the case. My body is trying to tell me something. It’s time to get more active. It’s time to take more walks, run and ride my bike whenever possible.

Instead of making excuses why I can’t do it – I’m tired – I will make the time to get it done. It’s time to start running again!

When I was active and drinking the health shakes, I was never under the weather. Seriously, never. It’s something that I definitely took for granted. While I don’t have the urge to run another marathon, it may very well be time to get started working on a half marathon again. It will give me something to train for and keep me motivated. Without that, it’s easy to be complacent and just sit around after work. When I’m not running, I have to continue to ride my bike around.

When it comes to health shakes, there isn’t a particular type I recommend. When I was training for the marathon, I mixed it up a lot. I would have pure protein shakes and other times I would have fruit smoothies, or leafy greens shakes. The more natural vitamins that I pumped into my system, the better. A few of my favorite health shakes include: Strawberry banana, chocolate pineapple (protein shake) as well as kale and spinach. They may not all sound appetizing but all certainly did the trick for me.

There you have it. In 2017 I will be running another half marathon and drinking more health shakes. We’ll see if my health starts taking a turn for the better.
