Homemade Baby Food
Jakob is eating solids! His favorites so far, are sweet potatoes, golden delicious apples and beets – yes, you read correctly, beets! It’s been really exciting choosing foods for him to try and watching his reactions to new flavors. There are some really interesting food combinations in the baby food isle at the grocery. It’s so incredibly easy to fill up my basket with those cute little jars. Adorable comes at a hefty price tag. I was spending $.60 – $1.00 per jar, and that’s when I decided that in order to stick to our weekly grocery budget, I needed to stop buying the cute little jars and start making my own. Now we make our own homemade baby food and easily save a few dollars.
I recently invested in a Ninja Master Prep Professional (QB1004).
It’s such a nifty little machine. I love the fact that the foods are so incredibly fresh!
Step 1: Cook desired food. In this case we cut up and cooked some sweet potatoes.
Step 2: pulse and puree the heck out of it
Step 3: Freeze & store – I use ice cube trays to initially freeze then pop them out and into a freezer bag for easy access later.
Here you go, the final product ready to store and serve.
